hardcopy

Save a plot to a file for printing

General form

hardcopy file plotargs
hardcopy vector
hardcopy

Just like plot, except creates a file called file containing the plot. The file is an image in plot(5) format, and can be printed by either the plot(1) program or lpr with the -g flag. To get PostScript instead, set hcopydevtype = postscript.

If there is a single argument and it is the name of a vector in the current plot, such as hardcopy vc2, or an expression containing a parenthesis, such as hardcopy db(vc2), it is plotted to a temporary file, whose name is printed. With no arguments, hardcopy asks for the name of the vector and does the same. Any other single argument is taken as the file, and the vector is asked for. The vectors can be expressions, as in plot: hardcopy out.plt db(vc2) ph(vc2). A file named like a vector needs the vector given too, as in hardcopy out.plt out.

This works in the Qt interface as well: a hardcopy never opens a plot window. The plot(1) and lpr tools are Unix programs, so on Windows the plot(5) file can't be printed directly; use set hcopydevtype = postscript for a file other programs can open.
